Overview
Upon your arrival in Auckland, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation. Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, sits beautifully between two harbors. Whether you prefer gentle sandy shores or wild, black-sand beaches, Auckland offers it all. For those interested, optional activities include visiting the Sky Tower or dining at the Orbit Restaurant. You’ll stay overnight in Auckland.
The following day, you’ll experience the best of Auckland on a guided small group tour, combining highlights of the city with a visit to the west coast’s lush rainforests and black sand beaches. After a day full of exploring, you’ll return to your accommodation for another night in Auckland.
Next, you’ll set off for the iconic Hobbiton Movie Set. You’ll see Hobbit Holes and The Green Dragon Inn and enjoy a guided tour through the rolling green hills made famous by The Lord of the Rings films. After a delicious lunch at Hobbiton, the journey continues to Rotorua, where you’ll stay overnight.
On the following evening in Rotorua, you’ll enjoy the Te Po Indigenous Evening Experience at Te Puia, with a cultural performance, buffet dinner, and hot chocolate served on the geyser terrace before heading back to your accommodation.
You’ll travel through volcanic landscapes and forests as you head toward Napier. This picturesque coastal town has beautifully preserved Art Deco architecture, created after an earthquake in 1931. The next day, you’ll tour Napier in a luxurious vintage car, reliving the glamour of the jazz era. The rest of your time here can be spent exploring the town at your leisure, or you may opt for a wine tour.
From Napier, you’ll journey to Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. Known for its sparkling harbor and green hills, Wellington is best explored on foot. You’ll have a free day to roam the city, and a cable car ride is included for stunning views. If you’re curious about New Zealand’s history and culture, the Te Papa museum offers a guided tour as an optional activity.
You’ll then ferry across the Cook Strait to Picton, taking in the breathtaking views of the Marlborough Sounds. Afterward, a bus will transfer you to Kaikoura, known for its wildlife and ocean views. Here, you’ll enjoy a scenic tour that takes you to the Kaikoura Peninsula for stunning views and sightings of seals before continuing to Christchurch.
As you leave Christchurch, you’ll pass through the Canterbury Plains and the turquoise blue waters of Lake Tekapo. You’ll visit the Church of the Good Shepherd and take in the majesty of Aoraki Mt Cook. After some time exploring, the journey continues to Queenstown, where you’ll stay overnight.
Queenstown offers a day of freedom, where you can take advantage of its many activities. The following day, you’ll embark on a full-day tour to Milford Sound, known for its awe-inspiring natural beauty. A cruise through the fiord, surrounded by towering mountains, will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Leaving Queenstown, you’ll travel through scenic wineries to the coastal town of Dunedin, where you can follow in the footsteps of early settlers. The next day, a private tour will take you to The Catlins, an untouched natural paradise with ancient forests and rare wildlife.
On your way back to Christchurch, you’ll pass through Oamaru, a harbor town known for its limestone architecture. With the Southern Alps in the background, your journey will conclude in Christchurch, where you may choose to enjoy an optional dinner on the Christchurch Tram before your final night.
On the last day, you will be transferred to Christchurch Airport for your departure, concluding your 17-day exploration of New Zealand.
