This 8-day tour of Sri Lanka takes you through the island’s rich cultural and natural wonders, beginning with a relaxing stay in Veyangoda before embarking on wildlife safaris in Wilpattu National Park. Day 1: Arrival Colombo – Veyangoda (44.9kms – 1hr)
- Arrive at Colombo Airport.
- Meet our local representative from Star Travel.
- Transfer to Veyangoda.
- Spend the night relaxing at Hotel Covanro.
- Stay overnight at Hotel Covanro.
Day 2: Veyangoda – Wilaptuwa (169kms – 3.5hrs) – Anuradhapura (38.6kms – 47mins) (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive to Wilpattu National Park for moning safari to see elephants, leopards, and other wildlife.
- Sloth Bears are best seen during the fruiting season of the Palu Tree which is from June to July.
- After the safari, drive to Anuradhapura and relax at the hotel.
- Stay overnight in Anuradhapura.
Day 3: Anuradhapura – Trincomalee (108kms – 2hrs) (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, proceed to Anuradhapura city tour.
- Anuradhapura, an ancient city in Sri Lanka, boasts several must-visit sites including the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, Ruwanwelisaya stupa, Thuparamaya stupa containing Buddha’s right collarbone, Jetavanarama stupa, Abhayagiri Vihara monastery and Isurumuniya rock temple with ancient carvings and a pond.
- Drive to Trincomalee and visit Trincomalee city in the afternoon.
- Trincomalee (Trinco) sits on one of the world’s finest natural harbours.
- This historic city is old almost beyond reckoning, it’s possibly the site of historic Gokana in the Mahavamsa (Great Chronicle), and its Shiva temple is the site of Trikuta Hill in the Hindu text Vayu Purana.
- Some great stopovers on the way to the nearby beaches of Uppuveli and Nilaveli.
- Stay overnight in Nilaveli.
Day 4: Trincomalee – Habarana (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive to Minneriya* and engage in a wildlife jeep safari in the Minneriya National Park.
- *We will take you to either Minneriya, Eco Park or Kaudulla National Park, both known for their elephant gatherings during the dry season.
- We will choose the park based on the dates of your visit to ensure the best chance of seeing these majestic animals.
- Return to the hotel in the evening.
- Stay overnight in Habaranna.
Day 5: Habarana – Sigiriya (17.1kms – 24mins) – Kandy (90kms – 2.5hrs) (Optional Experience – Cultural Dance Show) (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive towards Sigiriya to visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
- The fortress is famous for its frescoes, which depict beautiful maidens, and centres stunning views of the surrounding area from the top.
- It’s a popular tourist destination and a must-visit site for those interested in Sri Lankan history and culture.
- Continue to drive to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth and in the evening watch a cultural dance show (optional).
- Stay overnight in Kandy.
Day 6: Kandy – Colombo (144kms – 3hrs) (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, proceed towards Colombo, the economic capital of the island.
- En route, visit Giragama tea factory.
- Upon completion of the tour, continue towards Colombo.
- Arrive in Colombo and the rest of the evening is at leisure.
- Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 7: Colombo – Galle (147kms – 2hrs) – Colombo (Breakfast/Dinner)
- After breakfast, drive down the south part of Sri Lanka, Galle for a city tour – involves visiting the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates to the 16th century.
- Inside the fort, you can walk along the cobblestone streets, admire the colonial architecture, and visit attractions such as the Dutch Reformed Church and the National Maritime Museum.
- Then visit a Turtle Hatchery, which is a few kilometres north of the main Hikkaduwa town.
- Afterwards, proceed to a Mangrove boat ride in Madu River.
- Drive back to Colombo and overnight in hotel.
Day 8: Colombo City Tour – Depart to airport (Breakfast/Dinner)
